The Bella Collins Band

De Valence – Friday 12th November 2021

We are very pleased that the Bella Collins Band is opening our festival, it is most fitting as Bella has been one of the greatest supporters of our event. She never fails to deliver the goods, whether playing solo, with a duo, or the full band. She is an outstanding and original talent with a repertoire that ranges through Blues, soul, gospel, R’n’B, and jazz. There’ll be covers, songs from her last album ‘Late & Blue’, plus a few new self-penned tunes which we guarantee you are going to love.

One day, she will achieve the commercial success she so richly deserves, but right now let’s be thankful we can still experience her dynamic, sensitive, knowing, witty (yes!) and oh so cool music up close and personal in the relative intimacy of our main venue.

She’ll be accompanied by her band of experienced Welsh musicians.

The Daybreakers with Special Guest

De Valence – Friday 12th November 2021

“The Blues Incarnate” – Record Collector Magazine .

“Reinventing the heyday of the Blues Rock power trio in the mould of Cream and Hendrix” – Blues In Britain Magazine.

The Daybreakers make contemporary rock ‘n’ roll and energetic future Blues and are inspired by artists such as Peter Green’s Fleetwod Mac, Shuggie Otis and Curtis Mayfield as well as musical magpies like Prince, the Rolling Stones, and Captain Beefheart. The group combines uptempo fuzzy rhythm and blues with gritty, lowdown raunch .

The group are led by Aidan Connell who was described as ‘The new voice of London’ by Classic Rock Magazine. Aidan has collaborated with Blues giants Gary Clark Jr, Seasick Steve and Otis Grand amongst others. The group have been complimented by Jeff Beck and Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page who have both attended shows. The group met at various Blues sessions in London, eventually finding the common 12 bar format too constrictive.

The group also features Conor Cotterill (Bass), and James Gullis (Drums). Their unique sound originates from a combination of the diverse musical tastes and cultural backgrounds within the group

The Daybreakers are most definitely reclaiming the Blues and rock’n’roll for the younger generation.

His first solo album, Sawdust Man, received amazing reviews with Radio play in the UK and across The USA, Canada and on BBC Radio 2.

The Kyla Brox Duo

Acoustic Stage, Tenby RFC – Saturday 13th November 2021

We are pleased to welcome Kyla and her husband Danny back to Tenby to headline our Acoustic Stage.

Blues and soul become inextricably entwined in award-winning singer-songwriter, Kyla Brox, whose raw talent has seen her described as “the finest female blues singer of her generation”. Winner of the 2018 UK Blues Challenge, as well as the 2019 European Blues Challenge and crowned Best Female Vocalist in the 2019 European Blues Awards, Kyla’s star continues to shine bright. Her last album, Pain & Glory, reached No. 1 in the IBBA (Independent Blues Broadcasters Association) charts for April and was the most played album across the IBBA radio network for the whole of 2019. In a huge nod to her ongoing stature in British Blues, the UK Blues Federation made Kyla an official Ambassador of UK Blues in 2016 and she is one of only three British singers privileged to be included in the 50 Women of the Blues Spotify Playlist

Kyla plays in her duo with her husband, virtuoso acoustic guitarist, Danny Blomeley, whose playing, by turns delicate and unrestrained, has earned him a following in his own right.

Jo Carley & The Old Dry Skulls

De Valence – Saturday 13th November 2021

Dedicated to the subversive, the world of Jo Carley and the Old Dry Skulls is dark, animated and unusual.  Seeking to amuse and draw the audience into an underworld filled with wonder, the macabre and the imagination, they combine elements of Vaudeville, Skiffle, early horror films, 1930s Ska, Calypso, old-timey Country, and the Blues. This trio play a unique hybrid of early 20th Century music infused with dark Cabaret.

The driving force is Tim’s one-man-band set-up with kick-drum, hi-hat and guitar while Jo’s sweet melodies tell terrible things. This is made even more bewitching as she switches from fiddle to mandolin to washboard. They are joined by James Le Huray on double bass and banjo.

Together they make music that makes people wanna shake their bones.

The Cinelli Brothers

De Valence – Saturday 13th November 2021

The Cinelli Brothers is a project born out of a common passion for the electric Chicago and Texas blues from the 60s and 70s, when brothers Marco (guitarist and lead singer) and Alessandro (drummer) decided to form an explosive team showcasing an original repertoire in the style of Chess, Stax and Motown.

Joining the two brothers on stage are Enzo Strano on bass and Tom Julian-Jones on harmonica and guitar.

Their debut album Babe Please Set Your Alarm  reached number 2 in the IBBA (Independent Blues Broadcasters’ Association) chart in June 2018. The band has been featured in Blues in Britain, Blues Matters, Classic Rock and other magazines. The album has nine tasty original compositions and three finely crafted covers. ‘Chain of Fools’ by Don Covay (an Aretha hit), ‘Back Door Man’ – which stays true to Willie Dixon’s number – and Prince’s ‘Kiss’, in a remarkable shuffle rhythm.

Music Republic Magazine nominated Marco Cinelli as Best Guitar Player of 2018 and the band has been nominated for the UK Blues Awards as “Blues Band Of the Year”.

The Cinelli Brothers champion a new generation of passionate musicians sharing a the love of Blues, Soul, R&B and the true authentic sounds that have made the blues a cornerstone of music history.

Errol Linton

De Valence – Saturday 13th November 2021

‘Errol Linton, born in Brixton, south London, to Jamaican parents, isn’t the first or only Black musician on the scene, but he is the best known, for his Mississippi-meets-Trenchtown-in-SW8 style. “He mixes Blues up with a little London swagger, plus some Jamaican stylings, too,” says Cerys Matthews, presenter of Radio 2’s Blues Show. “He gets people up and dancing whether they claim to love Blues or not.”

“When I first started playing harmonica, I played along to anything: reggae, ska, soul, funk, hip-hop,” Linton says. “Then I heard the blues harmonica of Sonny Boy Williamson II – his sound introduced me to what you might call the deep well of Blues. With that foundation, along with my upbringing, I could express so many subjects: immigration, city life, poverty, murder, love, joy. All with a danceable beat.” ‘

Garth Cartwright, The Guardian, 10/9/2021.

Errol Linton may be one of the best kept secrets in British Blues despite being lauded by Cerys Matthews, Paul Jones, Jools Holland, Andy Kershaw and, er, Andrew Marr, but that looks set to change as his new album, No Entry (on Brassdog Records) which received 4* in Mojo and 9/10 in Uncut, is bringing him to a much wider audience.

Joe Bonamassa was so impressed with Errol and his band that he got up to play with them at a London show in 2020.

Three times winner of the ‘UK Harmonica Player of the Year award, Errol rarely plays Blues Festivals so it’s a real coup for us to get this legendary and charismatic performer  to come to Tenby with his marvellous band, a band that effortlessly combines Chicago and Mississippi  Blues with strong Caribbean influences.

“Errol Linton is the real deal” John Walters (BBC producer).

Dom Martin Band

De Valence – Sunday 14th November 2021

“Absolutely wonderful” – Cerys Matthews.

Dom Martin is a rare talent. His jaw dropping, entirely natural sounding and unforced skill on acoustic guitar, matched with an authentic ‘Belfast Blues’ voice, brings to mind comparisons with many from (Glasgow born) John Martyn, Van Morrison to Rory Gallagher,

Dom was awarded Best Solo/Acoustic Act in the European Blues Awards 2019 and having been a three category nominee in the 2020 UK Blues Awards, picked up Best Acoustic Blues Artist 2020, so all in all, pretty impressive for his first full year and a very impressive and personal debut album indeed.

Dom has just been awarded Best Acoustic Blues Artist 2021 and nominated in 3 categories in the 2021 UK Blues Awards so this is now a young man well established in the UK and European Blues scenes. Dom has just been invited by the UK Blues Federation to represent the UK at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis USA in 2022.

The James Oliver Band

De Valence – Sunday 14th November 2021

James plays a unique mix of rock ‘n’ roll, blues, country, rhythm ‘n’ blues, rockabilly and western swing, sometimes all in the same song. He even makes the occasional foray into prog rock, a style he gives very much a contemporary twist. It’s all there in one explosive pickin’ package.

To see him on stage, spectacular is very much the word. Little wonder the late, great Deke Leonard said “as a guitarist James scares the hell out of me!”

James is a ridiculously inventive and imaginative guitarist. He’s developing strongly as a singer and songwriter. He’s a very determined character. His favourite foods are chocolate and chips. He’s also a funny, larger than life fellow, a man with a razor sharp stage wit.

Winner of the Best Newcomer gong at the 2020 British Blues Awards, James has a track record that shows he will not allow an ounce of his incendiary talents to be wasted. In the last two years he’s released his first album, ‘Twang’, and an EP, ‘Goofin’ Around’ to great acclaim and an instrumental album is in the pipeline.

There’s every chance that the music in store will exhibit hitherto unheard dimensions to delight his growing army of fans. He’s paid his dues, he wears big shoes. They’d be hard to fill by anyone else.

Kat Pearson Band

De Valence – Sunday 14th November 2021

“One of the World’s best current female blues singers” Warren Walters Eel Pie Club. With a career spanning over 20 years, KAT PEARSON has shared a stage with many great artists, from Chicago Blues Queens Deitra Farr and Peaches Staten to Blues Hall of Fame inductees Mud Morganfield and Lil’ Jimmy Reed.

Kat has also performed on multiple television programs and “Pop Promos” including Top of The Pops, TGIF, Jonathan Ross, Richard & Judy, Chemical Brothers, Eternal, Boys II Men and Sly & Robbie.

However, it was her performance on The Word that won her a contract with Columbia Records, which led to extensive touring of the UK, Europe, and Australia. After a standing ovation at the Montreaux festival she went on to guest on Acid Jazz, London Records and Music for Nations record labels.

Looking back to her upbringing, Kat hales from a family steeped in the tradition of Gospel hymns and Blues folklore; from Sharecropping in Oklahoma to Civil Rights riots in Los Angeles, her roots go all the way back to the cotton fields of rural Tennessee.

Whilst taking some time off in Spain, Kathleen finally rediscovered a genre of music that was closer to her heart than she could have ever imagined. At an impromptu gig with a Blues band, she noticed her delivery came very naturally, bringing back a sound that had always been a part of the family’s tapestry. It was there and then that she realised what her true colours were, and she finally gave way to the Blues!

American Kat, now based in London, brings her hot new band to Tenby!
