In 1997, following a successful tour of Germany with his band the Immaculate Fools, Ray decided it was time to return to his musical roots: the blues. As a solo performer, freed from the weight of a band, his creativity soared and the resulting album, Primitive, establishes him as a distinctive, idiosyncratic voice for the blues. With his turbulent guitar, spirited harp playing and earthy vocals, Dirty Ray has produced an album that carries echoes of his musical influences - from John Lee Hooker to P.J. Harvey - yet remains undeniably his own unique creation.
